Our Three Imperatives
Opportunity, Discovery and ImpactThree Imperatives
Make a CU Degree from UCCS Southern Colorado’s Most Powerful Engine of Economic Mobility
UCCS will ensure that every student, regardless of background, income or starting point will have the opportunity to connect their learning to real-world experience through internships, research, mentorship and employer connections. And our graduates will enter the next stage of their lives not only with knowledge and a high-value degree, but the confidence, skills, adaptability and professional networks that help them thrive in their chosen profession.
Ensure Every Mountain Lion Has the Opportunity to Persist, Graduate and Flourish
UCCS has a responsibility to build an environment that minimizes barriers to progress and provide students with the support and relationships they need to succeed. By strengthening advising and student support, addressing retention and completion gaps, and making timely degree completion a shared responsibility across the university, we'll help students build meaningful relationships, navigate challenges, and realize their potential. Students will experience a personalized environment that enables them to connect, grow, and shape their future.
And this support starts before our students ever arrive on campus. For many, the first obstacle they encounter is during the application process, where they face fees that can be a barrier to higher education. And so, as a first step toward this goal, UCCS is eliminating the undergraduate application fee for all Colorado residents.
Build Southern Colorado’s Most Vibrant Ecosystem for Innovation and Prosperity
UCCS alongside partners in industry, government, education, healthcare and the military, we will mobilize the research, creativity and talent of UCCS to translate research into practical solutions, accelerate innovation and entrepreneurship and contribute to a resilient and prosperous region. You may have heard that UCCS is working toward the Carnegie Community Engagement Classification in 2030 to formally recognize our deep commitment to connecting teaching, research and service with the needs and aspirations of our community.
