Dear members of our UCCS campus community,

In light of yesterday’s events at the U.S. Capitol, I know many are struggling to make sense of the violence and chaos we have witnessed. I hope every member of our campus is safe and well. I recognize some of you may be looking for support, and if you are, please know that resources are available to you. 

As an institution of higher education, UCCS aims to light a path toward a better society. Our students are not just earning degrees – they are learning how to become good citizens of the world. Our democracy is only as strong as our commitment to one another. Now, more than ever before, we must commit to engaging in our communities and the world with compassion and empathy. 

Let the events of yesterday serve as a reminder that our words and actions matter. The way we engage with the world matters. And we should always choose kindness, empathy, integrity and fairness above all. I am proud that our Mountain Lion Family is always there for each other and more so in times like these. We are all stronger together.
