Sesquicentennial Celebrations

"In recognition of UCCS and Colorado Springs’ interwoven histories, I am pleased to announce we will join the community-wide celebration of the Colorado Springs Sesquicentennial." — Chancellor Venkat Reddy

Dear UCCS faculty and staff,

Happy (almost) birthday, Colorado Springs!

On July 31, 2021, Colorado Springs will officially turn 150 years old. In recognition of UCCS and Colorado Springs’ interwoven histories, and in celebration of our many years of proud partnership with the city, I am pleased to announce we will join the community-wide celebration of the Colorado Springs Sesquicentennial.

There are many ways to join the festivities, all leading up to July 31.

I invite you to attend one of four lectures offered by current and retired UCCS faculty members for a deep dive into the past, present and future of Colorado Springs. The first lecture, “UCCS & Colorado Springs – Growing Up Together,” will be offered by Provost Emerita Peg Bacon on February 17, with lectures to follow in March, April and May. Learn more and register online.

In addition, UCCS has accepted a city-wide challenge to plant 150 trees on our campus. This April, volunteers will plant these trees on-site at UCCS. Learn how to support the challenge.

The celebrations will continue throughout the summer with a scholar’s series, festivals, a reading list of local history volumes and more. I invite you to visit the Colorado Springs Sesquicentennial website to learn how to celebrate our city’s history, and our university’s heritage.

Respectfully,
